Campaign Popularity on  #metoo Stories-

This campaign gained great popularity within just a few days and it truly was a great starting point for addressing all kinds of situations where women were assaulted or harassed.

The same thing applies to Indian women also,  who, in many cases, still face discrimination and sexual violence on a daily basis, may in the workplace, school, college, bus, car, whatever possibilities

Even though this movement is still new to the world, it has truly helped women rid themselves of the shame and fear that a sexual assault brings.

India is one of the countries where sexual assault episodes happen on a frequent basis and sadly, there are many women who are not in a position to stand up for themselves.

The #metoo-campaign can really help shed some light on situations where women don’t have the upper hand.

It can help explain all the inequalities women in India go through to the rest of the world.

A new era for feminism has been marked in India and women can only hope to see better days.

As long as we have each other’s backs, we will be able to fight through anything…..

The global #metoo- the movement has now built on that momentum by giving more Indian women the courage to name names.

An unprecedented number of millennial youth launched a rallying cry for women’s unconditional freedom.

By bringing the discourse of freedom, sexuality, choice, and desire into the public spot—in the streets and through social media—this agitation forced the government to expand its legal definition of rape, introducing harsher punishment for rapists and criminalizing stalking and voyeurism.

The battle is far from over on #metoo Stories.

And, like many in the U.S. who fear that #Me Too has become a movement for the privileged few, many Indians reject this online feminist movement for being too elitist in a country where only a quarter of its population has access to the internet.

The earliest campaigns—the 2003 Blank Noise Project against eve-teasing, the 2009 Pink Chaddi (underwear) movement against moral policing, and the 2011 SlutWalk protest against victim-blaming—were limited in their scope but set the tone for this new mode of protest.

Campaigns such as the 2011 Why Loiter project on women’s right to public spaces, the 2015 Pinjra Tore (Break the Cage) movement against sexist curfew rules in student halls.

They have done it on social media using the hashtag “me too-“, which aims to show the magnitude of sexual assault.

Filmmakers Activity Of India on #metoo Stories-

In the wake of the campaign, 11 female filmmakers have signed an online note calling out Bollywood to cease working with accused sexual predators and harassers.

Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Kiran Rao And Gauri Shinde amongst others formed a collective note and signed it stating that they will no longer work with ‘proven sexual offenders’.

The note was shared on social media by famous  actor Konkona Sen Sharma:

The notes have been signed by top women directors including Alankrita Shrivastava, Meghna Gulzar, Nandita Das, Nitya Mehra, Reema Kagti, Ruchi Narain and Shonali Bose.
