Ketu is the descending (i.e ‘south’) lunar node in Vedic or Hindu astrology.
It is generally called a -shadow planet.
It has a tremendous impact on human life activity and also the whole creation.
Astronomically, Ketu and Rahu denote the points of intersection of the paths of the Sun and the Moon as they move on the celestial sphere on a regular basis.

1. What is Ketu?
Ketu is the South Node of the Moon means a “sign”, or a “banner” in the Sanskrit.
If Rahu is the planet of worldly desire and, then Ketu is called the planet of otherworldly desire, or towards spirituality.
It represents the spiritual process of evolution or called Moksha or the refinement of materialization to spirit.
This is the rest of the body of Rahu.

Ashvini, Mul, and Magha nakshatras are Ketu’s nakshatras.

Cancer and Leo signs- are enemies.

5. Ketu Mahadasha:
The major effects of Ketu are found in its periods of Mahadasha.
It’s Mahadasha’s period of operation in one’s life that comes for 7 years.
The effects of Ketu for Dasha or Mahadasha periods in one’s life can be analyzed broadly on the basis of the house that Ketu is placed.
It is a relatively short major period.
It has much more intense energy and which would be very difficult to tolerate for a longer period of a Jatak.
In many cases, found to be a death inflicting period if other factors point towards the same.
This is a planet of endings and thus facilitates one’s exit from the earthly realm?

The following mantras are also considered to be very good for Ketu. You may opt to recite one of the following mantras if you find it comparatively easy to remember. |
“Om sraam sreem sraum sah ketave namah” |
“Om kem ketve Namah” |
The mantras are chanted on Japa beads of 108 beads per string. They are similar to rosaries. The Ketu’s mantra may be recited 18,000 times and puja performed with mixed flowers and sandalwood within the ascending cycle of the Moon for getting awesome results. It can be started on a Tuesday during the bright half of the Moon. You can put the ‘Maha-Mrityunjaya yantra’ at the place of recitation may help you in achieving the desired results faster. Gayatri Mantra for Ketu is: “Om Chitravarnaya vidhmahe, sarparoopaya dhimahi, tanno Ketu Prachodayat”. This Gayatri mantra consists of three parts. The first is the chants to the Ketu. The second is the mantra proper. And the third is a summary of the mantra’s energies. The Gayatri mantra is chanted at sunrise, noon and sunset on a daily basis. At dawn, it is called Gayatri and, the youthful form of the Goddess, consort of Lord Brahma and, the creator. It is called Savitri and, the mature form, at noon, the consort of Lord Shiva. It is called Sarasvati and, the elderly form, at sunset, the consort of Lord Vishnu. |

In the 1st House:
When Ketu is present in the 1st house or the Ascendant or Lagna in one’s horoscope.
It negatively affects the decision making ability of the person.
People having Ketu in the 1st house of their horoscope are not able to arrive at a conclusion in their lives never. Somewhat confusing nature.
It gives blood pressure problems to the individual.
The person becomes dissatisfied with himself/herself as a tendency towards Moksha.
Although the Jatak is drawn towards spirituality after the age of 42 years.

Ketu in 1st house also signifies marital problems.
